Laura Hudson – Designer/Puppet Maker

lauraLaura joined Topsy Turvy Theatre in 2012 and in her first year with us she illustrated the teachers pack for our first Christmas production, The Lost Present…A Christmas Adventure; producing illustrations to accompany the activities within the pack, including our first colouring competition. At the end of 2012 she became part of the team who built the set for The Lost Present, displaying her versatility and passion in all things arty, producing (amongst other things) an impressive hand-sewn patchwork backdrop for the show.

In 2013, Laura’s role in the company developed further as she worked along side Artistic Director Claire Hills to develop the company and begin work on the 3rd show in their repertoire, Isabel’s Well. Laura drew the promotional flyer for the show in June and then began work as the Creative Director of the Isabel’s Well set build, taking the lead with Claire to begin another impressive set design.

Following on from the success of the first Isabel’s Well tour in 2013/14. Laura and Claire worked closely along side each other again to develop the brand new production and 4th show in the Topsy Turvy repertoire, Sorry, Christmas is Cancelled…Katie Saves the Day! Once again Laura illustrated the promotional flyer, and is currently working on the set design and construction for the new show…it’s on track to be the biggest, most interactive and best one yet!

Between 2011 and 2014, whilst juggling all her hard work at Topsy Turvy Theatre, Laura completed a degree in Graphic Design at The University of Huddersfield. She graduated in July of 2014 with a First Class honours degree, as well as the award for Outstanding Achievement in Graphic Design and The Chancellor’s Award. Since then Laura has embarked on her own entrepreneurial journey setting up her own design company, Hashtag House…of course she still remains an integral member of the creative team here at Topsy Turvy HQ, working hard on the next design project, including this snazzy new website!
